The Sustainability Project Manager will accept and post requests from faculty, staff, and administration for assistance with sustainability projects.
Requests will be posted in the Sustainability Office. Bemidji State University students can browse the requests and apply to assist under regular payroll assignments.
Purpose
The primary purpose of Sustainability Employment is to promote sustainability on campus by providing student worker assistance to faculty, staff, and administration.
Eligibility
- Students must be actively enrolled at Bemidji State University
- Applicants must meet all guidelines for student employment
Student Guidelines
- Projects will be posted in the Sustainability Office, open weekdays from 10:00am-3:00pm.
- Students will be placed on the wage scale based on their hours of employment at BSU.
- The Project Supervisor will receive the time-card, and must complete and sign when required.
- Employment hours of students must follow the Federal and State labor agreement rules and laws. Students may not volunteer “extra hours” while employed in a department or be asked to put in more time than what they can be legally paid. A student may not work more than 20 hours in one week (combined with other campus employment).
Faculty, Staff & Administration Guidelines
- Projects must promote sustainability on campus. Example projects:
- Environmentally responsible disposal of unwanted materials
- Cost/benefit calculations of renewable energy
- Waste audit of an academic building
- Feasibility of composting
- Research into sustainable office supplies
- Faculty/Staff/Administration will send requests for Student Employment to the Sustainability Project Manager on an ongoing basis.
- Faculty/Staff/Administration will serve as the Project Supervisor
- The Sustainability Project Manager will inform the Project Supervisor when a student applies for their project.
- Project Supervisors will receive the time-card for their student and must fill in the hours worked by the student, sign at the end of the pay period, and return to the Sustainability Project Manager. Another time-card will be issued, if needed.
- Project Supervisors may request no more than three projects per semester. Special circumstances may be considered.
